- The City of Hartford declared this date Jerry Garcia Day, and Garcia received an official citation from the State of Connecticut's General Assembly by way of congratulations. As Jerry said about the GD (paraphrasing): at some point, like the town whore, if you stick around long enough you become an institution, almost respectable.
- review: [positive] Catlin 1991. Catlin's review is perceptive in contrasting JGB and GD. He had read the RS and Boston Globe interviews, so was primed for it, but he hits the nail on the head. "Since this is a much smaller band than the Dead, and it has his name on it, there is less democracy. ... It made for a soulful little unit; it could get into a groove and swing more quickly than the sometimes lumbering Dead can."
