Jerry Garcia's injured hand cancels gigs

A hand injury suffered while scuba diving forced Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia to cancel three weekend concerts along with a makeup show scheduled for Monday night.The Jerry Garcia Band didn't play any of its scheduled performances over the weekend at the Warfield, and would-be concert goers should return their tickets to outlets for full refunds, said Jean Catina, a spokeswoman for Bill Graham Presents."Jerry had injured his hand in a scuba-diving accident," said Catina, who did not know where or when the accident had occurred. "He thinks he either scraped it on coral or he got stung by a jellyfish."He had some chiropractic treatment. But warming up for the shows, he knew his hand wasn't working well enough for him to play."Garcia, 52, who will celebrate his first wedding anniversary Wednesday, lost control of a loaner BMW on U.S. 101 between Mill Valley and Corte Madera Jan. 18.
